Mikumi sits four to five hours by road from Dar es Salaam, which makes it the practical choice for a short safari at either end of a Zanzibar holiday. The Mkata floodplain gives it a Serengeti-like openness, with elephant, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and lion in easy view.
