Lake Eyasi & the Hadzabe — 2 Days

The Hadzabe live around Lake Eyasi and still hunt with bows. You join them before dawn — walking fast, in silence, on a real hunt — then visit the neighbouring Datoga, who are blacksmiths and make the arrowheads. It is an early start and it is not staged.

The itinerary, day by day

1. 01

   Arusha to Lake Eyasi

   Lake Eyasi

   The drive south-west past Karatu and down the escarpment, arriving in the afternoon for a walk along the lakeshore.

2. 02

   Dawn with the Hadzabe, then on

   Lake Eyasi

   Out before first light to join the hunt, back for breakfast, then the Datoga blacksmiths before continuing to the Ngorongoro highlands or back to Arusha.
