The crater floor and back to Arusha in a day. A long day, and worth it.
It is a three-hour drive each way, so this is an early start and a late finish — but a morning on the crater floor is the densest game viewing in Tanzania and it is genuinely possible in a day from Arusha.

Arusha, the crater, and back
Leave Arusha around 6am, descend into the caldera mid-morning, spend the middle of the day on the crater floor with a picnic lunch, and climb out mid-afternoon for the drive home.
